Communities urged to join forces with security agencies to protect peace

Tanzanians have been urged to work closely with security agencies and local authorities to report incidents of crime and threats to public safety, while using social media responsibly to promote peace, stability, and national unity.

Peace, officials say, is the foundation for economic growth, social development, and justice.

Journalists have also been encouraged to use their platforms to educate the public on the importance of maintaining peace and to highlight development initiatives that benefit citizens.

Responsible reporting, they say, can strengthen national cohesion and ensure that the peace enjoyed in the country endures.

The appeal was made by Mr. Epimark Aqwesso and Mr. Gabriel Hilonga Silo from Karatu District in Arusha Region.

They urged Tanzanians to reflect on the unrest that occurred during and after the October 29, 2025, general election, which disrupted social and economic activities in many communities.

“Peace in our country allows us to gather, work, and carry out our daily activities,” said Mr. Aqwesso. “During the election period, fear spread widely, and many people were unable to work or went into hiding. This must never happen again. Young people today must remember that there is a future, and we must protect our nation’s peace at all costs.”

Mr. Silo stressed that young people should take advantage of the country’s peaceful environment to pursue economic opportunities, particularly in sectors such as agriculture and livestock.

“Peace is the lifeblood of our nation and its people. Everyone has a role to play in safeguarding it,” he added.
