The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has strengthened efforts to build an inclusive economy by providing financial literacy training to persons with disabilities in Singida Region, aiming to ensure that all citizens are actively involved in the country’s economic development.
The training, conducted on Thursday, April 23, 2026, brought together more than 100 participants and focused on key areas including the role of the central bank, financial literacy basics, identification of security features in banknotes and coins, as well as proper money management and savings skills.
Speaking during the session, the Executive Director of the Patronage for People with Disability (PPD), Ramadhan Maulid, commended BoT for reaching out to special groups, saying the initiative plays a significant role in empowering persons with disabilities to understand and take advantage of economic opportunities.
He noted that financial education helps build confidence among persons with disabilities, enabling them to participate fully in the financial system and contribute to national development without being left behind.
The training was facilitated by BoT experts, including Assistant Manager for Currency from the Dodoma Branch, Matilda Luvinga, and Senior Officer Sadi Makomba, who guided participants on practical aspects of handling money, identifying genuine currency, and adopting sound financial habits.
Participants were also introduced to the mandate of the central bank, including maintaining price and financial stability, regulating the banking sector, and safeguarding public confidence in the national currency.
BoT said the initiative is part of its ongoing nationwide programme to extend financial education to all groups, especially vulnerable communities, as a way of promoting financial inclusion and reducing economic inequality.
The bank emphasized that inclusive financial literacy is key to strengthening household economies, improving livelihoods, and building a more resilient national economy in line with Tanzania’s Vision 2050, which prioritizes inclusive and sustainable development.
BoT reaffirmed its commitment to continue rolling out similar programmes across the country to ensure no one is left behind in the journey toward economic growth and financial empowerment.
