The Minister of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, is expected to be the guest of honour at the eighth season of the popular boxing extravaganza “Knockout ya Mama”, which will take place today, April 24.
The event is organised by Mafia Boxing Promotion, which confirmed that all preparations have been finalised, including the official weigh-in of boxers, paving the way for a smooth and competitive night of action.
Speaking on Wednesday night, Mafia Boxing Promotion Director Ally Zayumba said the presence of Minister Makonda is a major boost to the event and reflects growing recognition of boxing as an important sport in Tanzania’s youth development and entertainment industry.
He noted that this will be the Minister’s first time attending the event since his appointment.
Zayumba said this year’s edition has been significantly improved, with stronger organisation, enhanced production, and a more competitive fight card designed to deliver a high-quality experience for fans.
“We are truly honoured to have the Minister as our guest of honour. His presence is a big encouragement and shows the importance of this platform in developing boxing talent,” Zayumba said.
He added that spectators should expect an exciting evening featuring intense boxing matches, live musical performances, and appearances by prominent figures from government and the entertainment industry.
According to organisers, gates will open at 1:00 pm, followed by musical entertainment starting at 2:00 pm, while the first bout is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm.
Zayumba further urged boxing fans and the general public to attend in large numbers, saying their support is vital in motivating local fighters and strengthening the sport in the country.
“We invite all fans to come and enjoy the entertainment while supporting our boxers. Their presence gives our athletes confidence and energy,” he said.
The “Knockout ya Mama” event has grown into one of Tanzania’s leading boxing platforms, combining sport and entertainment while providing opportunities for both emerging and experienced fighters to showcase their talent.
