Members of the Central Organising Committee for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 have convened in Kampala, Uganda, to assess and strengthen preparations for the continental football showpiece scheduled to be hosted in East Africa.

The meeting brought together key representatives from the countries involved in the joint hosting arrangement, with discussions centered on enhancing coordination mechanisms and ensuring all preparatory activities meet the standards required by the Confederation of African Football for a successful tournament.

A significant portion of the discussions focused on reviewing experiences from the recently concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN)

Delegates examined both successes and operational challenges, particularly in tournament management, team logistics, and fan engagement services.

The insights are expected to guide improvements as preparations for AFCON 2027 intensify.

Infrastructure readiness was identified as a priority area. The committee reviewed progress on the upgrading of stadiums, transport networks, and accommodation facilities across the host nations.

Emphasis was placed on ensuring that all venues and supporting systems meet international expectations for safety, comfort, and efficiency for teams, officials, and supporters.

Security planning also featured prominently in the deliberations. Members underscored the importance of coordinated security frameworks across the host countries to guarantee the safety of all participants and fans.

Discussions highlighted the need for joint operations, intelligence sharing, and effective crowd control strategies throughout the tournament period.

The committee further explored collaborative strategies aimed at making AFCON 2027 a landmark edition of the competition.

Leaders noted that the tournament will be historic as it will be the first time it is jointly hosted by three East African nations, requiring strong unity, shared responsibility, and seamless coordination.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to working closely to ensure the event is delivered successfully.

They expressed confidence that with sustained cooperation and timely implementation of agreed measures, AFCON 2027 will not only meet expectations but also elevate the region’s profile in global football.

The Kampala meeting marks another important milestone in the ongoing preparations, reflecting growing momentum as East Africa moves closer to hosting one of the continent’s most prestigious sporting events.
