The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has praised Yas and Mixx by Yas for their role in advancing the islands’ digital transformation and supporting economic growth.

The commendation was delivered on his behalf by Hamza Hassan Juma, Minister of State in the Second Vice President’s Office, during an Iftar dinner hosted by the company in Zanzibar yesterday.

Hon. Juma said the company’s investments in network expansion, digital financial services, and community programmes align closely with the Government’s vision for a modern and inclusive digital economy.

“The Government values private-sector partners who help build a digitally empowered Zanzibar,” he said, noting the role of Yas in improving connectivity and widening access to digital services for communities across the islands.

The dinner also marked a major social milestone, as Yas Tanzania announced health-care insurance coverage for 200 children from vulnerable communities.

The initiative was warmly received by the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children.

Permanent Secretary Ms. Abeida Rashid Abdallah expressed her gratitude, saying, “By providing health-care insurance to 200 children, Yas Tanzania has given these young people a chance to grow up healthy and confident. This initiative reflects a commitment not only to digital inclusion but also to the well-being and dignity of our communities.”

Government leaders, representatives from institutions, partners, customers, and members of the media attended the event, which reflected on the progress made since the launch of Yas and Mixx brands in Tanzania one year ago.

Yas Tanzania Chief Executive Officer, Pierre Canton-Bacara, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in Zanzibar through investments in digital infrastructure, financial inclusion, and community development.

He highlighted that Yas now operates Tanzania’s fastest and widest 4G and 5G network, independently verified for the third consecutive year, providing residents with improved access to education, business tools, and global markets.

“Zanzibar is central to our growth journey. Our work goes beyond connectivity; it is about creating opportunities for individuals, households, and businesses,” Mr. Canton-Bacara said.

“We are committed to working closely with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar to support the continued growth of the digital economy.”he added

The CEO outlined achievements made in partnership with the Government, including expanding telecom coverage to underserved areas, rolling out fibre connections for homes, schools, and businesses, and digitizing key public services through the Mixx Super App.

These include school fee payments, revenue collection, medical services, and digital payments for clove farmers, alongside community health and education programmes.

Yas has also provided free internet to more than 50 schools, benefiting over 31,000 learners, and conducted eye-care medical camps that have served thousands of residents.

Mr. Canton-Bacara thanked stakeholders for their trust and partnership, noting, “We are honoured by the confidence placed in us by the people and Government of Zanzibar. This motivates us to keep investing, innovating, and improving the services we provide.”

He concluded by extending warm wishes for the remaining days of Ramadan and the upcoming Eid celebrations.
