Dar es Salaam City Mayor, Nurdin Bilal Juma ‘Shetta’, has promised to collaborate with stakeholders to support and develop basketball, aiming to nurture young talent across the city.

Speaking at the conclusion of the Ramadhan Stars League yesterday, Mayor Shetta said his office will prioritize assisting teams with special needs and creating an environment conducive to the sport’s growth.

“Our goal is to ensure Dar es Salaam produces talented players who can serve the nation in the future,” said Shetta.

“I commend the organizers of this tournament. As a young mayor, I will work hand in hand with stakeholders, and my office will be a strong supporter of sports, especially basketball.”he added

He emphasized the importance of systems that allow young athletes to earn a living from their talents, helping them secure sustainable livelihoods through sports.

In a related initiative, Mayor Shetta donated two bicycles to basketball teams for persons with disabilities, promoting inclusivity and participation in sports for all.

Tournament coordinator Yusuph Mchenga described the event as a major success, noting the strong competition among participating teams.

“Every team prepared well to showcase their best, but in the end, there could only be one champion. We congratulate the winners and encourage other teams to aim even higher in future competitions,” said Mchenga.

In the final results, Soudy Black claimed the men’s championship, taking home five million Tanzanian shillings, while Mahewa emerged victorious in the women’s category with a prize of three million shillings.
