Zanzibar leaders urge strong moral and religious upbringing for youth

Zanzibar’s Deputy Chief Mufti, Sheikh Mahmoud Mussa Wadi, has called for early moral and religious guidance for children and young people, stressing that a strong foundation from a young age is key to building a principled and ethical society.

Speaking during the Qur’an Memorization Competition in Mjini District, Unguja, Sheikh Wadi said that despite moral challenges in society, bringing people together to share guidance and values can help nurture responsible and well-behaved communities.

He emphasized that communities benefit when children and youth grow up with collective support, ethical training, and a grounding in religious teachings.

Eng. Hamasi Yussuf Masauni, Member of Parliament for Kikwajuni Constituency and Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office, praised the competition as a long-standing tradition that continues to strengthen the moral development of young people.

Eng. Masauni added that Kikwajuni Constituency has been actively supporting children with various needs, including access to education, highlighting the importance of comprehensive support for youth development.

The event attracted leaders, educators, and youth, reinforcing the critical role of religious education and community engagement in shaping the next generation in Zanzibar.
