Yas Tanzania, the country’s leading digital lifestyle telecommunications company and part of the Axian Telecom Group, has once again been recognized as Tanzania’s fastest mobile network marking the third consecutive year the company has received the prestigious Ookla Speedtest Award.
The award was presented during the global technology gathering Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, Spain, highlighting Yas’s continued leadership in delivering high-speed and reliable mobile connectivity across the country.
The award is based on millions of consumer-initiated tests conducted through the widely trusted Speedtest platform, which analyzes real-world network performance including download and upload speeds across all major mobile operators in the Tanzanian market. During the award period, Yas recorded the highest overall Speed Score, outperforming other mobile operators
Pierre Canton, Chief Executive Officer at Yas Tanzania, said the recognition reflects the company’s long-term commitment to building cutting-edge infrastructure to deliver the best digital experience to Tanzanians.
“Winning the Ookla Speedtest Award for the third consecutive year is a proud milestone for Yas and cements Yas’s position as the benchmark for mobile network performance in Tanzania. Over the past few years, we have made significant investments to modernize and expand our network infrastructure, enabling us to deliver the widest 4G network footprint and a rapidly expanding 5G network in the country. This ensures that more Tanzanians, wherever they are, can access high-speed connectivity that powers education, business, entertainment, and digital financial services.”
Through sustained network expansion and modernization, Yas has strengthened connectivity across Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar by rolling out new sites, upgrading existing infrastructure, and deploying advanced technologies to meet the growing demand for high-speed data services.
“Yas’s continuous success in securing the Speedtest Awards for Fastest Mobile Network, year after year after year, is a clear indication of their leadership in the telecommunications sector in Tanzania, said Stephen Bye, President and CEO of Ookla, a division of Ziff Davis. “Speedtest Awards are known for their rigorous and unbiased testing, making this achievement for the second half of 2025 even more significant. This accolade reflects Yas’s commitment to industry leading network performance to their customers."
The company’s sustained investment in next-generation infrastructure continues to transform how Tanzanians connect, communicate, and participate in the digital economy. With strong 4G service and the expansion of 5G in key areas, Yas is enabling faster streaming, smoother digital experiences, improved online learning experiences, and more reliable connectivity for businesses and individuals alike.
This latest recognition further reinforces Yas Tanzania’s mission to empower communities and accelerate Tanzania’s digital transformation by delivering world-class connectivity that meets the evolving needs of its customers.
