Yanga, Mtibwa Sugar face off at Jamhuri Stadium

Young Africans Sports Club will today face Mtibwa Sugar FC in a Mainland Premier League encounter at Jamhuri Stadium as both sides seek important points in the ongoing campaign.

Yanga go into the match after being held to a goalless draw by TRA United FC in their previous league fixture, while Mtibwa Sugar approach the game looking to recover from a defeat in their last match.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Yanga head coach Pedro Gonçalves said the team faced some logistical challenges during preparations after travelling from Arusha shortly before the match.

He explained that the squad had limited time to train and instead focused on recovery sessions following the long journey.

“Our target in every match is to collect three points, and this game will not be any different,” said Gonçalves.

He noted that finishing the first round of the league at the top of the table gives the team confidence, although it does not guarantee the title.

“Leading the table at this stage does not mean we have already won the league, but it gives us motivation and belief as the season continues,” he added.

On the other hand, Mtibwa Sugar assistant coach Awadh Juma said the team has used the past two weeks to review its performance and correct mistakes that contributed to recent defeats in both the league and the FA Cup.

“We have had enough time to work on our weaknesses after losing our previous matches. The players are motivated and ready to fight for a positive result,” said Juma.

The fixture is expected to be closely contested as both teams aim to strengthen their position in the NBC Premier League standings.
