Preparations are underway for the Union League tournament that will bring together football clubs from Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar from April 21 to 27, 2026, at Amaan Stadium.
The preparations were discussed during a meeting held on March 16, 2026 in Dar es Salaam, chaired by the Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office, Hamad Yussuf Masauni.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of State in the Office of the Second Vice President of Zanzibar, Hamza Hassan Juma, the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, and Zanzibar’s Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Riziki Pembe Juma.
Officials from the Tanzania Football Federation and the Zanzibar Football Federation also attended the meeting, alongside representatives from the National Arts Council of Tanzania and other football stakeholders.
The tournament will feature eight teams, four from Mainland Tanzania and four from Zanzibar.
Mainland teams expected to participate are Simba SC, Young Africans SC, Azam FC and Singida Black Stars.
Zanzibar will be represented by Mwembe Makumbi FC, KVZ FC, Mafunzo FC and Mlandege FC.
The tournament is expected to strengthen sports cooperation between Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar while giving football fans an opportunity to watch leading clubs from both sides compete in one competition.
