Lushoto MP donates iftar food to five secondary schools

The Member of Parliament for Lushoto, Prof Riziki Shemdoe, has provided iftar food support to students in five advanced level secondary schools in the constituency as part of assistance during the ongoing fasting period.

The support targeted Form Five and Six students from Shambalai, Magamba, Mlongwema, Ubiri and Masange Juu secondary schools.

The food items were distributed on March 15, 2026, through ward councillors representing the MP in the wards where the schools are located.

The exercise was coordinated by the chairperson of the Lushoto District Council.

Items provided to the schools included wheat flour, maize flour, rice, bananas, cooking oil, cassava and potatoes to help students observing fasting during the holy months of Ramadan and Lent.

Students from the beneficiary schools welcomed the support, noting that it would help them maintain strength and concentration in their studies while observing the religious fast.

During the same exercise, councillors on behalf of Prof Shemdoe also handed over Sh200,000 to the Irente Orphanage Centre to support children at the facility with Eid gifts.

The MP has also extended similar support to vulnerable households in the constituency.

Earlier this week, he partnered with the organization Islamic Help to distribute iftar food packages to 100 households in Ubiri and Ngulwi areas.
