Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Yusuph Juma Mwenda, on March 1, 2026, met with the leadership of Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dar es Salaam, in a move aimed at reinforcing collaboration between the revenue authority and key public health institutions.

The hospital delegation was led by its Director General, Prof. Abel Makubi. During the meeting, Mwenda praised Benjamin Mkapa Hospital for its voluntary tax compliance and for delivering high-quality healthcare services to Tanzanians.

He highlighted that such commitment reflects the value of government investment in the health sector through taxes, which ultimately benefit citizens.

“Healthcare remains one of the most critical areas financed by taxes. Institutions like Benjamin Mkapa Hospital demonstrate how public resources can directly impact the lives of Tanzanians,” Mwenda said.

He also revealed that TRA is ready to support the hospital in providing specialised treatment for patients, including a programme to assist about 100 individuals expected to undergo kidney and bone marrow transplants.

The initiative will also target children living with sickle cell disease, locally known as Seli Mundu.

Mwenda emphasized that Benjamin Mkapa Hospital is among the country’s exemplary taxpayers, consistently meeting its obligations with integrity.

He noted that TRA continues to create an environment that encourages voluntary tax compliance while ensuring non-compliant taxpayers are brought on board, a strategy that supports national development and economic self-reliance.

For his part, Prof. Makubi commended TRA for its citizen-focused approach, which has helped raise awareness about tax responsibilities.

He said the hospital is a direct beneficiary of public investments funded by tax revenue, delivering specialised services such as kidney and bone marrow transplants.

These services have not only treated Tanzanian patients locally but have also attracted patients from other countries seeking advanced medical care.

“The partnership between TRA and health institutions like Benjamin Mkapa Hospital ensures that tax contributions translate into tangible benefits for citizens,” Prof. Makubi said.

The meeting reinforced the mutual commitment of both institutions to strengthen collaboration, improve public service delivery, and promote a culture of voluntary tax compliance in Tanzania.
