Tanzania is making a strong mark on the international tourism stage at ITB Berlin 2026, one of the world’s largest travel fairs, where the National Museum of Tanzania (NMT) is taking part in the campaign “Tourism Beyond Safaris.”
At the exhibition, NMT is promoting Tanzania’s historical and cultural heritage, highlighting attractions that go beyond the country’s renowned wildlife safaris.
Featured sites include Olduvai Gorge, a globally significant paleoanthropological site, and the historic ruins of Kilwa Kisiwani, alongside other key heritage locations along Tanzania’s coastline.
In a special collaboration with Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Humboldt Forum, NMT has curated an exhibition titled Histories of Tanzania.
The showcase tells the story of Tanzania before colonial rule and during early interactions with German explorers, using cultural artefacts and historical displays to bring the country’s rich history to life for international audiences.
The NMT delegation is led by Programme Head Achilles Bufure and Head of Marketing and Public Relations Pendo Gondwe, who are presenting insights into Tanzania’s heritage tourism potential.
They emphasize that European tourists are increasingly seeking authentic cultural experiences, creating new opportunities for Tanzania’s tourism sector.
Through its participation in ITB Berlin 2026, Tanzania is strengthening its global tourism profile, promoting historical and cultural attractions as key experiences, and positioning the country to attract a more diverse international visitor base.
