Tanzania, China strengthen cooperation on crime-fighting technology

By The Respondents Reporter

The Government of Tanzania and the Government of China have begun discussions to strengthen cooperation in the use of technology to prevent and investigate crime, including cybercrime and transnational criminal activities.

The planned cooperation will involve collaboration in criminal investigations, cybercrime prevention and the exchange of criminal suspects between the two countries as part of broader efforts to enhance security cooperation.

The development emerged during a working meeting between the Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, and China’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Chen Mingjian.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in addressing modern security challenges, particularly crimes that involve the use of digital technologies and cross-border criminal networks.

They agreed that the partnership will include the exchange of technological systems used in crime detection and monitoring, as well as cooperation in building the capacity of law enforcement agencies to deal with emerging forms of crime.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of sharing expertise in criminal investigations and strengthening collaboration between security institutions in the two countries.

Officials said cybercrime has become one of the fastest-growing security threats globally, making international cooperation important in tracking criminals who often operate across national borders through digital platforms.

Through the partnership, Tanzania expects to improve the efficiency of its crime-fighting institutions by adopting modern technologies and enhancing information sharing with international partners.

The meeting took place at the minister’s sub-office in Dar es Salaam.

Tanzania and China have maintained long-standing diplomatic relations, and the latest engagement reflects growing cooperation in security, technology exchange and institutional capacity building aimed at strengthening public safety.
