The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Regional Administration and Local Government has commended the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) for what it described as effective supervision and implementation of TACTIC development projects in Arusha.

Speaking after inspecting the projects on March 17, 2026, committee chairperson Florent Kyombo praised the progress and quality of the works, saying the projects have set a strong benchmark for similar initiatives being implemented in municipalities and cities across the country.

The committee visited several major projects under the programme, including the construction of the Bondeni Intercity Bus Terminal, Mrombo Market, Kilombero Market and the upgrading of Themi Recreational Park.

Kyombo said the projects demonstrate strong coordination and supervision, noting that the standard of implementation provides a good example for other local government authorities implementing similar urban development initiatives.

He also commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for mobilising resources that have made the projects possible and for entrusting the oversight of their implementation to the leadership of the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government.

During the inspection, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government, Riziki Shemdoe, said stakeholder participation was a key component before the projects commenced.

He explained that a preparatory team conducted consultations with residents and stakeholders using a structured process to collect views and recommendations related to each project.

According to Shemdoe, the consultations ensured that community views were incorporated into the projects, noting that such engagement is also an important requirement for development initiatives supported by the World Bank.

Committee member Hawa Mwaifunga also praised the progress made in the construction of the Bondeni Intercity Bus Terminal, saying the facility will significantly benefit residents of Arusha once completed.

Meanwhile, the committee’s deputy chairperson Jafari Chege commended the leadership of Arusha Region and the city authorities for ensuring effective implementation of the projects, noting that the investments will help improve service delivery and stimulate economic activities.

Speaking on behalf of residents, Themi Ward councillor Melance Kinabo thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating funds for the four TACTIC projects in Arusha, saying the developments will help expand employment opportunities and increase income for many residents once completed.
