The Dar Rapid Transit Agency (DART) is moving closer to launching Phase Five of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project along Mandela Road, a key artery in Dar es Salaam’s transport network.

On March 17, 2026, DART held a crucial working session with transport operators, business leaders, and local authorities to align on strategies for smooth project implementation.

The meeting focused on building shared understanding and collaboration to minimize disruptions during construction.

Acting CEO of DART, CPA Adv. Jerome Pantaleo Rweshagara, stressed that educating stakeholders is vital for the project’s success.

“Stakeholder engagement ensures citizens and institutions understand the process, reduces challenges, and enables everyone to participate fully in creating an efficient urban transport system,” CPA Jerome said.

He acknowledged that construction may temporarily affect traffic flow but emphasized that proper planning and collaboration would help complete the project on schedule while improving transport services in Dar es Salaam.

Dar es Salaam City Council Director, Ndg. Elihuruma Mabelya, highlighted that Phase Five will help ease congestion on Mandela Road, a major commercial corridor.

“The project includes dedicated lanes for vehicles, which will streamline traffic and boost business efficiency,” Ndg. Mabelya said.

Project Manager for BRT Construction at TANROADS, Eng. Frank Mbilinyi, thanked stakeholders for their participation, noting that their input would help address potential infrastructure challenges before contractors begin work.

Funded by the French Government through the French Development Agency (AFD), the Mandela Road BRT Phase Five project is expected to bring significant social and economic benefits.

It underscores the commitment of development partners and the Sixth Phase Government to modernizing Tanzania’s transport infrastructure and enhancing urban mobility.
