Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba on March 13, 2026 officially laid the foundation stone for the 28 Towns Water Supply Project in Shanwe Ward, Mpanda Municipality, marking a major step toward improving clean and safe water access for thousands of residents.

The TZS22.8 billion project, now 55 percent complete, is scheduled for full operation by July 2026. Upon completion, it will provide a reliable supply of safe water, directly benefiting communities that have long faced water shortages.

During an inspection of the project, the Prime Minister urged the contractor to complete the work on schedule and to the highest quality standards, ensuring residents start enjoying the new water services without delay.

Officials say the water system will deliver approximately 12 million litres of water per day, addressing critical water needs in Mpanda and surrounding towns.

“This project is a game-changer for local communities. Access to clean water is fundamental for health, education, and economic growth. The government is committed to expanding water infrastructure to improve the daily lives of Tanzanians,” Dr. Nchemba said.

The initiative is part of a broader government effort to strengthen water supply in urban areas, ensuring more households enjoy safe, reliable water services and supporting sustainable development in the region.
