Elisha Nelson Mnyawi, Chairman of the Manyara Region Miners’ Association (MAREMA), has urged stakeholders in the mining sector to step up and assist victims of recent floods in Moipo Ward, Simanjiro District.

Speaking in Mirerani on Sunday, March 29, 2026, Mnyawi handed over food and relief items valued at TZS 22 million to Simanjiro District Commissioner Mwalimu Fakii Raphael Lulandana.

The donations were provided by Permanent Mining Ltd to support flood-affected families in the area.

He emphasized that while miners have long contributed to community initiatives through corporate social responsibility (CSR), it is crucial they continue supporting residents during emergencies.

Several mining companies, including Franone Mining, God Mwanga, Chusa Mining, California Camp, Bilionea Saniniu Laizer, and Sunda Mining, have a history of community engagement, and Mnyawi encouraged them to extend help to flood victims.

“Through this public handover, I wish to commend our Director, God Charity, who immediately approved this aid following a request from the Member of Parliament for Simanjiro, James Ole Millya, who is also Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation,” said Mnyawi.

He added that miners have consistently demonstrated a spirit of volunteerism and he is confident they will continue providing meaningful support to those affected in Moipo.

“Honourable DC, miners have a strong commitment to community welfare. Franone Mining is constructing clinics in mining areas, Chusa Mining is developing women’s wards at Mirerani Health Centre, and now they are contributing to flood relief efforts,” Mnyawi noted.

Permanent Mining Ltd’s donation included 100 bags of maize, 318 tins of cooking oil, 100 bed sheets, 500 kg of rice, 400 bars of soap, 20 cartons of body lotion, and 100 mosquito nets.

Additional items comprised 100 notebooks, 200 pens, 200 pencils, 100 compasses, six cartons of blankets, and six cartons of salt.

Simanjiro DC Mwalimu Fakii Raphael Lulandana reported that the floods affected 1,163 residents in Moipo Ward and destroyed 5,429 acres of bean and maize farms.

Frank Oleleshwa, Secretary to MP James Ole Millya, who is currently in Equatorial Guinea, conveyed the MP’s condolences to his constituents.

Hans Nkya, Chairman of Mirerani Township Authority, thanked God Mwanga and Permanent Mining Ltd for their timely support to the flood victims in Moipo.
