Illegal property holders to face tough action as Chalamila announces one week deadline to return assets

The Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Albert Chalamila, has called on all individuals illegally occupying or possessing property or land to return it to the rightful owners within one week, following the discovery of increasing land disputes in various parts of the region.

Speaking to journalists this morning at the regional offices, Chalamila said that assessments conducted during his recent visits to several districts revealed that one of the major challenges facing residents is land conflicts arising from illegal ownership and misappropriation of property.

“Our recent visits have clearly shown that many land disputes are being caused by individuals occupying land or properties unlawfully. Therefore, I am giving a one week deadline to anyone involved in such actions to return those properties to their legally recognized owners,” Chalamila said.

He further warned that strict measures will be taken against anyone who fails to comply with the directive after the deadline, emphasizing that the government will not tolerate actions that create conflicts and deny citizens their rightful ownership.

In another development, the Regional Commissioner invited all residents of Dar es Salaam who are facing various challenges to visit his office and present their concerns directly.

He explained that the special exercise of receiving and addressing citizens’ complaints will run for one week, with the aim of bringing government services closer to the people and ensuring their grievances are resolved promptly.

“My office doors are open. All citizens with challenges are welcome to come forward so that we can listen to them and work on their issues in time,” he emphasized.

The move has been described as part of the regional leadership’s efforts to strengthen good governance, protect citizens’ rights, and ensure that public resources are used in accordance with the law.
