The Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone has commended residents for their continued cooperation with security agencies in efforts to prevent crime across different parts of the city.
Police authorities said the overall security situation in Dar es Salaam remains stable, allowing residents to continue with their daily activities without disruption.
The police emphasized that collaboration between the public and law enforcement agencies has been instrumental in maintaining peace and order.
In a statement, the police also provided an update on the ongoing investigation into the murder of a man identified as Athumani Nyanza.
His body was recently discovered buried in a pit near his house in the Kimyakimya Street area of Zingiziwa in Ilala District.
According to the police, a suspect identified as Rehema Maulidi, 42, a resident of Kigamboni in Dar es Salaam, has been arrested, detained and interrogated in connection with the killing.
Another suspect has also been apprehended, although the police said the individual’s name has been withheld for investigative reasons.
Authorities said legal procedures are currently being completed to enable relevant judicial institutions to take further legal action against the suspects.
Meanwhile, the police said they have recorded several successes through the prosecution offices and courts in Dar es Salaam, where a number of suspects were found guilty of various criminal offences between February 25 and March 18, 2026.
Among those convicted is Joel Israel, also known as Joel, a resident of Charambe, who was sentenced by the Temeke District Court to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of armed robbery.
Athuman Saidi, popularly known as Nyoni and a resident of Buza, was also sentenced by the Temeke District Court to 30 years in prison for armed robbery.
In another case, Majid Kassim, a resident of Mzizima in Kigamboni, was sentenced by the Kigamboni District Court to 20 years in prison after being convicted of committing an indecent assault.
Simon Lesirwa, a resident of Mwanagati, received a 30-year prison sentence from the Ilala District Court for armed robbery, while Omar Yasin, a resident of Kitunda, was sentenced by the Ilala District Court to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of rape.
The police said the convictions demonstrate the effectiveness of cooperation between law enforcement authorities, prosecutors and the judiciary in addressing criminal activities in the city.
As Muslims prepare to celebrate Eid el-Fitr on March 21, 2026, the Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone assured residents that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the celebrations are conducted peacefully.
Police urged residents to continue observing the law and cooperating with security authorities to maintain peace and safety during the festivities.
The police also extended their Eid el-Fitr greetings to residents of Dar es Salaam and all Tanzanians celebrating the holiday.
