The Tanzania Police Force has launched an investigation into a viral social media video showing a young boy being encouraged to smoke.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) David Misime, the Police spokesperson, stated on Sunday, February 15, 2026, that such behavior is illegal and violates both social norms and national regulations.
DCP Misime emphasized that the police are tracking down the individuals involved and that legal action will follow once the investigation concludes.
He urged anyone who knows the child or the people in the video to come forward and assist authorities, ensuring the child’s safety and health.
“We also warn against any acts of cruelty or abuse toward children, or similar harmful behavior, for any reason,” the statement said.
The Police Headquarters in Dodoma further noted that some people exploit children to gain followers on social media.
Authorities are calling on those responsible to stop immediately, warning that continued violations will result in arrests and legal consequences.
The police reminded the public that such actions are a serious breach of Tanzanian law and social standards.
