The Tanzanian government has collected more than Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) 70 billion from fees, levies, and taxes linked to the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Project

Officials say the revenue is expected to rise to over TZS 2.3 trillion once the pipeline begins full operations.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Salome Makamba, revealed this on 16 February 2026 during a visit by Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba to the EACOP site in Tanga region.

The project, which is now 81% complete, started in 2022 and involves constructing a 1,443-kilometer crude oil pipeline along with supporting infrastructure, including storage tanks and a loading terminal.

The total project cost is USD 5.649 billion, with the Tanzanian government contributing USD 374 million (15% of total shares).

The project has also created 10,000 jobs so far. 7,500 Tanzanians with low to medium skills have found work, while 2,500 skilled professionals in engineering, electrical construction, and environmental management have also been employed.

In addition, more than 200 Tanzanian companies have won contracts worth over TZS 1.325 trillion to supply goods and services.

Roads stretching 304 kilometers have been upgraded to support construction and boost local economic activity.

Salome thanked President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for her support, noting that the project is on track to be completed by July 2026, a milestone that will bring significant benefits to Tanzania’s economy and citizens.
