Tanzania Bureau of Standards calls for food and cosmetic business registration

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), operating under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, has urged all food and cosmetic business operators to register their premises and comply with inspections to ensure product safety and quality.

TBS, mandated under the Standards Act, Cap. 130, monitors the quality and safety of products across the country.

The bureau conducts checks on production, storage, distribution, and retail points to ensure that food and cosmetics meet required standards.

The bureau emphasized that registration of business premises dealing with food and cosmetics is mandatory.

This guarantees compliance with hygiene standards and protects consumers from unsafe products. TBS also carries out market inspections to identify expired products, cosmetics containing harmful substances, and items with misleading labels, which are removed from the market to safeguard public health.

Gladness H. Kaseka, TBS Manager for Coordination and Marketing, called on manufacturers, distributors, and sellers to adhere to registration and inspection regulations.

She encouraged businesses to cooperate fully with TBS inspectors to maintain product quality and protect consumer health.

TBS has established a customer service hotline, 0800 110 827, for further inquiries and guidance.
