TANESCO boosts service delivery with 51 new vehicles

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has strengthened its operational capacity after receiving 51 new vehicles, part of a larger batch of 100 expected to be delivered by the end of this month, in a move aimed at improving the quality and speed of customer service nationwide.

The vehicles, Toyota Land Cruiser double-cabin models, are expected to enhance TANESCO’s ability to respond quickly to power-related needs, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas where access has often been limited by poor terrain and environmental challenges.

Speaking on February 6, 2026, the Head of Transport at TANESCO Headquarters, Mr Thomas Gowele, said the new fleet would play a critical role in ensuring electricity services reach citizens on time, especially in rural communities.

“We have already received 51 vehicles out of the 100 we are expecting. These vehicles will significantly improve efficiency in serving our customers, particularly in areas that were previously difficult to access,” Mr Gowele said.

He called on staff who will be entrusted with the vehicles to use them responsibly and strictly for official duties, stressing that proper use of the new assets is essential to fulfilling TANESCO’s mandate of providing reliable electricity to all Tanzanians.

The power utility has been steadily investing in transport facilities, including small vehicles, trucks, three-wheelers and motorcycles, as part of broader efforts to strengthen field operations and improve service delivery across the country.
