Simba SC held to 2-2 draw by ES Tunis in CAF Confederation Cup thriller

By The Respondents Reporter

Simba SC’s CAF Confederation Cup campaign suffered a setback on Sunday after the Tanzanian giants were held to a 2-2 draw by Tunisia’s ES Tunis in a closely contested match that exposed the fine margins at continental level.

The Dar es Salaam side showed resilience and attacking intent, with Shomari Kapombe and Kagoma both getting on the scoresheet to keep Simba in the contest.

However, goals from Diakite and Boualia ensured ES Tunis left with a valuable point, frustrating Simba’s push for a result that would have strengthened their qualification hopes.

Simba enjoyed spells of control and created several promising chances, but lapses in concentration at the back proved costly against a disciplined and experienced ES Tunis side.

The draw leaves Simba with limited room for error in the remaining fixtures, making progression from the group stage increasingly challenging.

Elsewhere in the CAF Confederation Cup, AS Otoho claimed a 2-1 win over Singida Black Stars, with Nzaou scoring the decisive goal.

The result further complicates the outlook for Tanzanian clubs competing on the continental stage this season.

With pressure mounting and expectations high, Simba now face a critical period as they assess their chances in the remaining matches, while attention may already be turning to rebuilding and strengthening ahead of next season’s continental campaign.
