Police in the Dar es Salaam Special Zone have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with an alleged attempted murder incident that left a motorcycle taxi rider seriously injured in Kariakoo.

The suspect, identified as Marwan Haikal Said, a resident of Kariakoo in Ilala District, was taken into custody following the incident, which occurred on February 2, 2026, at around 5:40 a.m. along Pemba and Bonde streets in the busy commercial area.

Police said the suspect allegedly attacked Nurdin Yahaya, 29, a motorcycle taxi rider from Mbezi, using a sharp object, causing severe injuries to his hand.

Preliminary findings show that the incident stemmed from a dispute over 10,000 Tanzanian shillings, which the injured man had demanded as payment for transporting goods sent from Sinza.

Following the attack, the victim was rushed to Muhimbili National Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, and authorities have confirmed that he will be presented before the relevant legal authorities in due course.

Police have urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid acts of violence, emphasizing that the law will take its course against those found to have committed criminal offenses.
