Government signs five agreements to open overseas job opportunities

The government has signed five international employment agreements as part of ongoing efforts to expand job opportunities for Tanzanians, with negotiations for 16 additional agreements now at an advanced stage.

The Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Mr Deus Sangu, revealed the development on February 7, 2026, in Dar es Salaam during a gala dinner that featured the official launch of the Imbeju–Bongo Fursa programme and the Youth Review Magazine. The event was organised by the National Economic Development Council (NEDC).

Mr Sangu said the agreements will enable Tanzanians, particularly young people, to access employment opportunities abroad through formal and government-backed arrangements.

He noted that the move is aligned with national efforts to tackle unemployment while ensuring that labour migration is safe and well regulated.

He said Tanzania continues to enjoy growing confidence from international partners in labour cooperation, following high-level engagements with foreign governments.

“I recently visited the United Arab Emirates, where I held discussions with labour ministers from several countries. They all expressed strong goodwill towards Tanzania. So far, we have signed five agreements that are ready for implementation to provide employment opportunities for our youth,” Mr Sangu said.

He added that the opportunities outlined in the National Development Vision are being implemented through his ministry, stressing that the government is in the final stages of talks on 16 international employment agreements that will further widen access to overseas jobs for Tanzanians.

The minister emphasised that the government is committed to protecting the rights and welfare of Tanzanian workers abroad by ensuring that all agreements are transparent, lawful and beneficial to both employees and the country.

Meanwhile, NEDC Director Mr Jesse Madauda said the Imbeju–Bongo Fursa programme and the Youth Review Magazine are aimed at motivating young people while bridging the gap between youth-led initiatives and potential investors.

He said the platforms showcase the creativity and innovation of Tanzanian youth, making it easier for investors to identify promising entrepreneurs and understand the progress they have achieved.

“Our objective is to inspire young people and present their innovations clearly, while also enabling investors to see the value and potential within Tanzania’s youth,” Mr Madauda said.

Earlier, entrepreneur Ms Elizabeth Consoli commended the government for its continued support to innovators and entrepreneurs, saying such efforts are crucial in helping young business owners grow and transition from one stage of development to another.

She said sustained government support has strengthened confidence among entrepreneurs and contributed to building a more inclusive and resilient economy.
