Dr. Mwigulu, FAO Deputy discuss strengthening Tanzania’s agriculture sector

Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba met today with Ms. Beth Bechdol, Deputy Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in Dar es Salaam to discuss ways to boost Tanzania’s agricultural sector.

During the meeting, both leaders pledged to deepen the strong partnership between Tanzania and FAO. 

They highlighted their shared goal of enhancing food security, supporting farmers, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices across the country.

Dr. Nchemba emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing agriculture and creating opportunities for smallholder farmers, while Ms. Bechdol reaffirmed FAO’s continued technical support and collaboration.

The discussions also focused on ongoing projects and potential areas for future cooperation, including improving crop productivity, strengthening supply chains, and addressing challenges posed by climate change.

Both sides agreed that close collaboration between the government and FAO will play a key role in ensuring Tanzania achieves its agricultural development targets and sustains growth in the sector.
