Ambassador Baraka Luvanda, the newly appointed Deputy Permanent Secretary for Environment at the Vice President’s Office, was officially received at the office today following his swearing-in at State House.
The reception was held at the Vice President’s Office in Luthuli, Dar es Salaam, and was led by the Deputy Minister for the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), Dr. Festo Dugange.
Dr. Dugange welcomed Ambassador Luvanda and wished him success in overseeing environmental management.
“The environmental sector is vital to our country’s sustainable development. In your role, you will ensure that Tanzania continues to manage its natural resources responsibly and effectively,” he said.
Permanent Secretary of the Vice President’s Office, Dr. Richard Muyungi, pledged full support to Ambassador Luvanda, assuring him of collaboration from all staff to enable smooth and efficient implementation of his duties.
He called on officials from the Vice President’s Office and the National Environmental Management Council (NEMC) to provide the necessary guidance and support.
Dr. Muyungi also highlighted ongoing initiatives to strengthen the National Carbon Monitoring Centre (NCMC), a strategic move that aims to enable Tanzania to fully benefit from carbon trading and create new economic opportunities.
In his remarks, Ambassador Luvanda thanked the leadership and staff for their warm reception. He emphasized his commitment to working closely with institutions under the Vice President’s Office, particularly on matters related to Union affairs and environmental management.
He further noted that his work will be guided by the vision of President Samia Suluhu Hassan and aligned with national policies, laws, and strategies designed to promote sustainable development in Tanzania.
Ambassador Luvanda’s appointment comes at a time when Tanzania is intensifying efforts to protect the environment while leveraging natural resources to drive economic growth.
