TMA urges public to follow official channels for weather updates

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has called on citizens to rely only on official channels for weather updates, warning that false information online could disrupt development planning.

Speaking at the TMA stand during the 12th Zanzibar International Trade Fair (ZITF) at Nyamanzi Grounds, Zanzibar, TMA Zanzibar Director, Mr. Masoud Makame Faki, encouraged the public to access reliable weather information through recognized media, the TMA website (www.meteo.go.tz), and the Authority’s social media platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, and Facebook. All official accounts are listed on the TMA website homepage.

“Following verified information is crucial. False reports circulating online can mislead the public and affect key development projects,” Mr. Faki said.

At the fair, TMA also educated visitors on current weather phenomena, including the ongoing heatwave in Zanzibar.

Mr. Faki explained that as the world moves toward the southern seasonal cycle, strong sunlight combined with high humidity around the islands has intensified temperatures, creating persistent heat conditions for residents.

The Authority continues to use the trade fair as a platform to raise public awareness, providing guidance on how communities can adapt to changing weather patterns and extreme conditions.
