TMA reports 94.1% accuracy in Vuli rain forecast

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has announced that its ongoing Vuli season rainfall forecast has been accurate by 94.1 percent, signaling strong technical capacity in weather prediction.

Speaking exclusively to Torch Media in Dar es Salaam, TMA Meteorologist Alfred Kondoya said the observed rainfall and weather patterns across the country have largely matched the authority’s earlier projections.

“The rainfall levels and their distribution in various regions have closely followed our forecast percentages,” Kondoya explained. “This shows that the data and scientific methods we use are reliable.”

Despite the overall accuracy, Kondoya noted that rains have been unusually scattered in some areas, affecting farming activities, particularly for farmers who planned their planting schedules according to the season.

He urged Tanzanians and key stakeholders to keep following weather updates closely to prepare for any unexpected changes.

Looking ahead, TMA plans to release the official Masika season rainfall forecast in early February. The forecast will cover March through May, a period critical for planning in agriculture, water, energy, and infrastructure.

Kondoya said the authority is consulting widely with government agencies and stakeholders, including DAWASA, the Ministry of Water, the Prime Minister’s Office, and other institutions, to address local challenges and provide accurate guidance tailored to different regions.

“Before we announce the Masika forecast, we want to ensure all sectors have the right information for planning,” he added.

TMA’s accurate Vuli forecast underscores the growing capacity of Tanzania’s meteorological services, helping communities and industries make informed decisions in the face of changing weather patterns.
