Stakeholders from across Tanzania have been trained to better understand and use weather services provided by the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), in a two-day workshop held at Best Western Hotel, Dodoma.

The workshop, which opened on January 22, was officiated by the Director General of TMA and Vice Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Dr. Ladislaus Chang’a.

He highlighted that accurate weather information is essential for protecting lives, supporting livelihoods, and improving economic activities across all sectors.

During the sessions, TMA experts explained daily weather forecasts, early warnings for severe weather events, and climate trends.

Participants also learned about the legal obligations to use official weather information, particularly in sectors like construction, aviation, and water management, ensuring safety for communities and workers.

The workshop also focused on climate change, highlighting its impact in Tanzania and the role of communities in responding to these challenges.

Special attention was given to gender equality and inclusion of vulnerable groups in climate adaptation efforts, emphasizing that everyone has a role to play.

The training concluded on January 23, 2026, with the Director of Weather Services Regulation and Quality Control, Dr. Georfrid E. Chikojo, representing the TMA Director General.

He thanked stakeholders for their participation and encouraged them, along with the media, to continue educating the public on the importance of using official weather information to protect lives and property.

Dr. Chikojo stressed that by following TMA’s guidance, citizens can make informed decisions, reduce risks from extreme weather, and contribute to national efforts to adapt to climate change.
