Tanzania, Japan strengthen economic partnership

Tanzania and Japan have agreed to further deepen their long-standing cooperation to support economic growth and sustainable development, with a focus on delivering real benefits to citizens.

The commitment was reiterated in Dodoma during a meeting between the Minister of Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), and the Japanese Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Yoichi Mikami, who paid a courtesy call at the Ministry of Finance offices at Treasury Square.

Ambassador Omar expressed the Government of Tanzania’s appreciation for Japan’s continued support to the country’s development agenda, noting that Japan has been a reliable partner in implementing projects that contribute to economic transformation and improved public services. 


He emphasised the government’s determination to work closely with development partners to ensure that all initiatives bring measurable and lasting benefits to Tanzanians.

He said Tanzania remains committed to strengthening cooperation in key sectors that drive inclusive growth, while ensuring that development projects are efficiently implemented and aligned with national priorities.

For his part, Ambassador Mikami commended the Government of Tanzania for fostering a strong and enabling environment for bilateral cooperation. 


He reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting development programmes aimed at boosting economic growth, expanding infrastructure and improving social welfare, in line with Tanzania’s development priorities.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Engineer Mshamu Ali Munde (MP), Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Ms Amina Khamis Shaaban, Acting Commissioner for Policy Analysis at the Ministry of Finance, Dr Remidius Ruhinduka, as well as senior officials from the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
