Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba on Friday toured Arusha National Park under the Amazing Tanzania tourism promotion initiative, as the government intensifies efforts to market the country’s natural attractions to domestic and international audiences.

The visit, made on January 31, 2026, aligns with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s strategy to promote tourism as a key driver of economic growth, foreign exchange earnings and employment.

Senior government leaders have been encouraged to take part in the campaign by visiting and publicising major tourist destinations across the country.

Dr Nchemba was received by the leadership of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, led by Minister Ashatu Kijaji, together with senior officials from Tanzania National Parks (Tanapa).

During the tour, he visited several attractions within the park, including wildlife viewing sites, the Tululusia waterfalls and the scenic landscapes of Mount Meru, which is known for its rich biodiversity and natural forest cover.

Speaking during the visit, the Prime Minister praised Tanapa for its conservation efforts and innovation in developing tourism products, noting that such initiatives have continued to enhance the value of national parks while attracting both local and foreign tourists.

“I have seen firsthand the good work being carried out by Tanapa in protecting our natural resources and developing new tourism products. These efforts are commendable and make a meaningful contribution to the growth of the national economy,” Dr Nchemba said.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the tourism sector by creating a conducive investment environment, with the aim of increasing national revenue and expanding employment opportunities.

He also urged Tanzanians to actively participate in domestic tourism and support conservation efforts to safeguard the country’s natural heritage for future generations.

Minister Kijaji said the Prime Minister’s visit demonstrated the government’s strong commitment to promoting Tanzania as a leading global tourism destination.

She noted that high-level engagement plays an important role in boosting confidence among investors and stakeholders in the tourism industry.

“We appreciate the Prime Minister for taking time to visit Arusha National Park. His presence adds momentum to our efforts to improve tourism products and attract more visitors and investors,” she said.

She added that the ministry, working closely with Tanapa, will continue to improve tourism infrastructure, enhance visitor services and strengthen marketing strategies to ensure Tanzania’s attractions remain competitive internationally, with Arusha National Park remaining one of the country’s key tourism assets.
