President Samia Suluhu Hassan has introduced a bold new framework for Tanzania’s domestic and foreign policy, calling it “Sovereign Pragmatism,” during the annual Diplomatic Sherry Party, held for the first time at Chamwino State House in Dodoma.

Speaking before ambassadors, high commissioners, and heads of international organizations, President Samia outlined a transformative approach anchored in national interest, institutional renewal, and macroeconomic resilience.

She highlighted Tanzania’s economic progress amid global challenges, noting sustained GDP growth of 5.9 percent, headline inflation maintained at 3.3 percent, and a public debt level that remains sustainable.

The country has continued to attract investment, with 927 new projects worth over USD 11 billion recorded by December 2025, expected to create more than 162,000 jobs.

The President emphasized a strategic shift from aid dependence to trade and investment, stressing that Tanzania seeks partnerships that deliver tangible results in technology transfer and industrial growth.

She underscored the country’s non-aligned yet multi-engaged position, balancing support from the Global West with infrastructure cooperation from the Global East, while inviting global participation in value-addition ventures in sectors such as Liquefied Natural Gas and critical minerals.

In her address, President Samia launched the Tanzania Development Vision 2050 (Dira 2050), a roadmap designed to achieve double-digit economic growth through sustainable maritime and renewable resources, leveraging Tanzania’s strategic location as a logistics hub, and transitioning the economy from primary production to industrial value addition.

Acknowledging post-election tensions, she reaffirmed her commitment to national reconciliation, resilience, and reform.

This includes measures such as granting pardons to convicts linked to post-election unrest, establishing an independent commission to uphold accountability, and advancing inclusive constitutional reforms.

The President also highlighted the internationalization of Kiswahili as a key pillar of Tanzania’s cultural diplomacy and expressed appreciation to the diplomatic community for its continued support, calling on global partners to recognize the structural reforms underway.

“Tanzania is a nation that has learned from its past and is focused on its future,” President Samia said.

“We invite the world to engage with us in a spirit of transparency and inclusivity as we build a nation that is prosperous and at peace with itself.”she added

The relocation of the Diplomatic Sherry Party from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma reflects the government’s commitment to decentralization and the complete transition of national governance to the capital.
