Nzengeli’s late strike sends Yanga SC into Mapinduzi Cup final

By Victoria Godfrey

A decisive goal from Maxi Nzengeli has propelled Young Africans SC (Yanga) into the final of the Mapinduzi Cup, setting up a highly anticipated showdown against Azam FC in Zanzibar on January 13.

Yanga sealed their place in the final after registering a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Singida Black Stars in a semi-final match played on January 9.

Nzengeli proved the difference, delivering a calm finish that capped another influential display and reaffirmed his growing reputation in the tournament.

The narrow win extended Yanga’s impressive run in the competition and kept their hopes of lifting the prestigious Zanzibar-based trophy firmly alive.

Azam FC booked their final berth earlier after edging Simba SC 1-0 in the other semi-final, a result that knocked out the defending champions and set the stage for an all–Mainland Tanzania final.

The upcoming clash between Yanga and Azam is expected to draw huge interest from football fans, given the intense rivalry between the two sides and their recent history of closely contested encounters.

With silverware at stake, the final promises a high-tempo contest as both teams chase Mapinduzi Cup glory.
