Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, on Friday saw off China’s Foreign Minister, Mr Wang Yi, at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) following a two-day official visit that underscored the depth of relations between the two countries.

Mr Wang Yi was in Tanzania from January 9 to 10, 2026, on a working visit aimed at further strengthening the long-standing historical and strategic partnership between Tanzania and the People’s Republic of China.

During the visit, the Chinese foreign minister held bilateral talks with his Tanzanian counterpart, Ambassador Kombo, focusing on ways to deepen cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.

He also met President Samia Suluhu Hassan at State House in Dar es Salaam, where the two leaders discussed the broader framework of Tanzania–China cooperation and shared development priorities.

Speaking during the farewell, Ambassador Kombo thanked Mr Wang Yi and his delegation for choosing Tanzania as part of the visit, saying the engagement had reinforced the spirit of friendship, solidarity and mutual trust that has defined relations between the two countries for decades.

“This visit has further strengthened our brotherly ties and long-term cooperation. Tanzania looks forward to the practical implementation of the agreements reached for the benefit of our peoples,” he said.

Mr Wang Yi, in turn, expressed appreciation to the Government of Tanzania for the warm reception and hospitality accorded to him and his delegation.

He said China was satisfied with the current level of cooperation and reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to remain a close and reliable partner in Tanzania’s social and economic development efforts.

Tanzania and China share a long history of cooperation rooted in mutual respect and solidarity, with China continuing to play a significant role in supporting Tanzania’s development across various sectors.
