By The Respondents ReporterThe Flying Family Choir (FFC) paid a special visit to Lake Duluti, a unique eco-tourism gem in northern Tanzania, located within Arusha City.
Despite its small size, Lake Duluti is celebrated for its extraordinary natural beauty, attracting both local and international visitors.
Formed by an ancient volcanic eruption, the lake’s circular shape and serene surroundings make it an ideal spot for relaxation, reflection, and nature appreciation.
During the tour, FFC members were introduced to one of the lake’s most remarkable features: a floating island that drifts gently across the water with the wind.
“The island is made of plants, mud, and interwoven roots, so it is not anchored to the lakebed. When the wind blows, it moves slowly from one side of the lake to the other, leaving visitors amazed,” a tour guide explained.
The guide added that Lake Duluti’s calm green waters reflect its depth, while the quiet is occasionally punctuated by the calls of wild birds, creating a peaceful environment perfect for photographers, nature enthusiasts, and those seeking mental tranquility.
Lake Duluti is also home to a variety of aquatic birds, fish, and other wildlife. Visitors can enjoy activities such as canoeing, guided nature walks, birdwatching, and landscape photography, making it a perfect spot for learning, adventure, and relaxation.

For Febronia Tesha, second soprano of the Flying Family Choir, the visit was both inspiring and educational.
“Lake Duluti truly showcases Tanzania’s natural richness. Being here gives you time to reflect and appreciate nature. I urge everyone, both locals and tourists, to visit and witness the floating island firsthand,” she said.
