Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Florence Samizi, is in Arusha Region on an official visit to oversee and strengthen the delivery of specialized and super-specialized cardiac services through the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI).

The visit is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to bring advanced healthcare services closer to residents in the Northern Zone.

During her visit, Dr Samizi met with the Arusha Regional Commissioner, Mr Amos Makalla, to discuss the significant investments made by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in the region’s health sector.

Key developments highlighted include upgrades to hospital infrastructure, procurement of modern medical equipment, and the deployment of additional health professionals.

Dr Samizi said the improvements have strengthened Arusha’s capacity to deliver high-quality healthcare services to both residents and visitors.

She emphasized that the enhanced facilities will ensure timely access to care, particularly ahead of major events such as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, positioning the region to meet international healthcare standards.

“Strengthening specialized cardiac services at JKCI is essential for reducing referrals to distant hospitals and providing lifesaving care closer to the people,” Dr Samizi noted.

Regional Commissioner Amos Makalla added that the region has started preparing for the rollout of the Universal Health Insurance scheme by enhancing public awareness and strengthening implementation at district, ward, and street levels.

He said the program will improve access to healthcare and reduce the financial burden on families.

Both leaders praised health workers in Arusha for their dedication and tireless service, noting that their commitment remains critical to the success of ongoing health sector reforms.
