The Ngorongoro Conservation Authority (NCA) today took part in and sponsored the Amboni Adventure Run in Tanga, using the event to promote the tourism potential of Amboni Caves under its management.
The race, featuring 6 km, 10 km, and 20 km categories, attracted over 500 runners from across Tanzania. It started at Galanos Secondary School and concluded at Amboni Caves, giving participants a chance to explore the site and experience its natural and cultural attractions firsthand.
Acting NCA Public Relations Manager, Hamis Dambaya, who ran the 10 km race, said the Authority is partnering with stakeholders to increase the profile of Amboni Caves both nationally and internationally.
“Our goal is to attract more visitors to see the natural formations and learn about the historical significance of the site, including its connection to freedom fighters,” he said.
Amboni Caves Site Manager, Ramadhan Rashid, highlighted the site’s key attractions, which include unique geological formations, water-carved sculptures resembling ships, views of Mount Kilimanjaro, a church, a mosque, cultural rituals, birdwatching, the Gender Cave, Fatuma Cave historically used for matchmaking, diverse plant species, a river, and scenic coastal landscapes.
Director of Kale Amboni Caves, Sophia Mulamula, noted that this was the third season of the Amboni Adventure Run. She said the event has grown in popularity and will be further improved next year to attract more runners.
“After evaluating the past two years, we have seen that these races appeal to many people. Next year, we plan to enhance the experience further to promote tourism, showcase Tanzania, and encourage sports tourism,” Mulamula said.
