Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Ambassador Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, on Tuesday led mourners at the burial of former Peramiho Member of Parliament, the late Jenista Mhagama, describing her as a dedicated public servant whose contribution will remain deeply remembered.
The burial was held at Ruanda Village in Mbinga District, Ruvuma Region, drawing senior government leaders, ruling party officials, religious leaders and residents from across the region.
Delivering condolence messages after the burial, Dr Nchimbi said the late Mhagama was a true servant of the people who consistently placed the needs of citizens at the centre of her public service.
“The government, the people and Chama Cha Mapinduzi have lost an important leader whose contribution across various responsibilities will not be forgotten,” he said.
The Vice President added that both the government and the ruling party would continue to honour her legacy by remaining firm advocates of ordinary citizens, urging leaders to ensure that people at the grassroots remain a daily priority in governance and service delivery.
He also conveyed a message of gratitude from President Samia Suluhu Hassan to the family of the late Mhagama and the people of Ruvuma Region, noting that the Head of State was deeply touched by the loss due to the significant role Mhagama played during her lifetime.
“President Samia has been profoundly affected by this loss, given the dedication and service that the late Jenista Mhagama rendered to the nation,” Dr Nchimbi said.
He further thanked church leaders who took part in prayers and memorial services held in honour of the late Mhagama, from Dodoma to Ruvuma, acknowledging their role in providing spiritual support during the period of mourning.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba directed the Ruvuma Regional Commissioner to closely supervise the contractor working on the Kitai–Ruanda road to ensure construction progresses at the expected pace.
He said the government had already released funds for the project, recognising the road’s strategic importance to the local economy.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Mussa Zungu, expressed appreciation to the government, Parliament, ministers, MPs, the bereaved family and residents for ensuring that the late Mhagama was laid to rest with dignity, while praying for her eternal peace.
The late Jenista Mhagama served in various leadership roles and was widely regarded as a committed representative of her constituents, particularly for her advocacy for community welfare and development.
