The Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) has
made an impressive first appearance in the National Board of Accountants and
Auditors (NBAA) awards, securing second place in the 2024 Best Presented
Financial Statements competition for government agencies.
Receiving the award in Dar es Salaam, TPDC Board Member Mrisho
Shabani, who represented the board chairperson, said the outcome reflects
deliberate planning and a commitment to accountability.
“We did not enter this competition to be spectators. It was
our first time participating, and emerging second proves that our preparation
and discipline are paying off,” he said.
Mr Shabani said the award has strengthened the morale of
TPDC staff, especially accountants, adding that the recognition will accelerate
improvements in reporting and operations.
“We are proud of this achievement, but it also challenges us to correct our weaknesses so we can come back even stronger,” he noted.
He added that TPDC is upgrading natural gas infrastructure
to support rising demand from CNG users, industries, and households.
“As we enhance our systems, production will increase, and
more customers will access natural gas with greater reliability,” he said.
Closing the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Finance Laurent
Deogratius Luswetula described the awards as a critical pillar of national
governance and accountability.
“High-quality financial reporting is essential for
taxpayers, investors, and development partners who rely on accurate information
to make decisions,” he said.
He praised the 2025 Accountants Annual Conference for
focusing on the future of the profession, stressing that accountants play a
central role in managing the country’s resources.
“Your work is fundamental to Tanzania’s economic stability
and long-term sustainability,” he said.
NBAA Director General CPA Pius Aloysius Maneno said this
year’s competition upheld strict evaluation standards.
“Every submission underwent a thorough two-stage review based on international reporting standards, clean audit opinions, and governance requirements,” he said, adding that the publicly available checklist ensured transparency and fairness.
“This process reinforces confidence in Tanzania’s financial
reporting ecosystem and promotes a culture of integrity,” he added.
The Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) was named the winner in the government agencies category, ahead of TPDC’s strong second-place finish.
