Vice President of Tanzania, Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the Emergency Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), held virtually.
The meeting was chaired by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, serving as SADC’s Interim Chairperson.
During the summit, leaders focused on restoring peace and stability in Madagascar. They called for inclusive national dialogue to ensure free and democratic elections, highlighting SADC’s commitment to peace, security, and democratic governance in the region.
The summit also confirmed Zambia as the next Interim Chairperson of SADC, ensuring continued leadership and collaboration among member states.
Vice President Nchimbi attended the meeting alongside Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr. Ngwaru Maghembe, and Deputy Permanent Secretary Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa, reflecting Tanzania’s active role in promoting regional peace and cooperation.
