President Samia Suluhu Hassan has tasked government leaders and officials to make decisions grounded in research, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Ambassador Dr. Bashiru Ally Kakurwa, has said.

Dr. Bashiru made the remarks on December 5, 2025, during a visit to the Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) in Dar es Salaam.

He was accompanied by Deputy Minister Ng’wasi Kamani, Secretary General of the Ministry Agnes Meena, Deputy Secretary General Dr. Edwin Mhede, and other senior officials. He urged researchers to appreciate the institute’s critical role in advancing national interests.

“Recognizing the importance of this institute and the Sixth Phase Government’s commitment to strengthening the fisheries sector, I was sent by His Excellency the President to make the first official visit to this centre. The President expects us to make decisions based on expert advice and research findings, not on emotions,” Dr. Bashiru said.

He added that the government aims to develop the fisheries sector to ensure it contributes significantly to the national economy and supports sustainable development.

Following the TAFIRI visit, Dr. Bashiru and his delegation proceeded to the Tanzania Fishing Corporation (TAFICO) to engage further with key stakeholders in the sector.
