The Manyara Region Miners Association (MAREMA) has purchased a plot worth TZS 30 million to construct its own offices and a conference hall, marking a major step toward strengthening the association’s operations.
Until now, MAREMA did not own any office property, and its members relied on temporary arrangements for meetings and administrative work.
The new plot in Mirerani, where the association’s headquarters are located, will provide a permanent base for office operations and serve as a hub for members.
Speaking at MAREMA’s 2025 Annual General Meeting in Mirerani, Chairman Elisha Nelson Mnyawi said the purchase reflects the association’s commitment to better serve miners in the region.
“Since our headquarters are in Mirerani, we decided to buy this plot to establish our offices and a conference hall,” Mnyawi said.
He thanked Deputy Chairman Money Yusuf, California Company, Joseph Manga, and himself for each contributing TZS 5 million toward the purchase.
Mnyawi emphasized that the initiative aims to ensure MAREMA has its own offices and that each branch eventually develops its own facilities to serve local miners more effectively.
Peter Laizer, Chairman of MAREMA’s Mirerani Branch, praised miners for approving a policy to contribute 1% of their post-production income to support the association.
“MAREMA is a large institution, and miners’ decision to support it financially is commendable, as it will enable the association to operate independently,” Laizer said.
Meanwhile, Rachel Njau, Secretary of MAREMA’s Mirerani Branch, applauded Franone Mining Ltd. for committing to build a dispensary at the Tanzanite mining site to provide health services for miners.
“We appreciate Franone Mining Ltd. for this initiative. The Ministry of Minerals has already approved the construction site, and we expect building work to start very soon,” Njau said.
