The Longido District Council has officially launched the Board of Directors of its commercial entity, Oldonyo Northern Company Limited, in a move aimed at strengthening business management and boosting internally generated revenue.

The board was inaugurated on December 18, 2025, by the District Executive Director (DED), Mr Nassor Shemzigwa, alongside its first meeting, which focused on setting strategic priorities and operational plans for the company.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Shemzigwa described the event as a major milestone for the council, saying the decision to establish the company followed persistent challenges in managing the council-owned brick manufacturing factory.

He said the new company structure would ensure more professional, efficient and accountable management of the facility and other future commercial ventures.

“This is a moment I have been waiting for over a long period. The council resolved to form this company after carefully reviewing the operational challenges we faced in running the brick factory. We are confident that this approach will deliver better results,” said Mr Shemzigwa.

He urged board members to work in unity and with a strong sense of responsibility, noting that the council has adequate resources and skilled professionals capable of translating plans into tangible outcomes.

According to him, teamwork and commitment will be key in ensuring the company achieves quick and sustainable success.

The DED stressed that the role entrusted to the board requires dedication beyond normal working hours, assuring members of full support from the council during the company’s formative stages.

He also directed the board to set clear priorities and align the company’s operations with the council’s broader development agenda.

Mr Shemzigwa further instructed the company’s management to ensure that Oldonyo Northern Company Limited delivers dividends and contributes meaningfully to the council’s revenue base, particularly in the 2026/2027 financial year.

On his part, the Chairman of the Board, Mr Rajabu Mmunda, who is also the Longido District Trade Officer, thanked the council management for the confidence shown in the board.

He pledged that members would discharge their duties with professionalism, transparency and teamwork.

“We are committed to working closely with management to ensure the company becomes productive within a short time and delivers positive results for the council,” said Mr Mmunda.

The establishment of Oldonyo Northern Company Limited is expected to enhance the performance of the council’s brick manufacturing factory while laying the foundation for other income-generating investments, ultimately strengthening service delivery and local economic development in Longido District.
