Katavi National Park has seen a surge in visitors this holiday season, just days after the launch of TANAPA’s “Holiday Cheer” campaign.
On December 20, 2025, both local and international tourists flocked to the park, drawn by its stunning landscapes, rich wildlife, and unique attractions.
One of the most popular spots is Paradise, often compared to the biblical Garden of Eden. The area offers tranquility and hosts large herds of buffalo, giraffes, elephants, lions, impalas, and several snake species known for their cunning.
Other highlights include the Katsunga plains, a key dry-season feeding ground for wildlife, the hippo pool known as Ikuu, and the sacred Katabi tree, where the Wagongwe, Wapimbwe, and Wabende communities perform traditional rituals.
Speaking at the launch, North Zone Conservation Commander Steria Ndaga, representing the TANAPA Commissioner, said the campaign aims to boost domestic tourism and increase visitor numbers, ultimately contributing to national revenue.
“TANAPA continues to improve infrastructure, including roads, airstrips, lodges, and visitor information centers, to attract both tourists and investors,” he said, noting that strong infrastructure and clear policies are critical for sustainable tourism development.
Mpanda Member of Parliament Haidary Sumry urged residents of Katavi and neighboring regions to visit the park, especially during holidays when families spend time together.
He shared that he and his family had recently enjoyed the park’s attractions firsthand.
Dr. Emilian Kihwele, TANAPA Assistant Commissioner of Conservation and Katavi National Park Director, welcomed the tourists, noting that the campaign has already shown positive results.
“Today, over 130 visitors explored the park, enjoying the diverse wildlife, scenic landscapes, and investment opportunities,” he said.
The launch attracted senior officials, including Mpimbwe District Director Shamimu Mwariko, TANAPA Commissioners, government and party leaders, tourism stakeholders, and beneficiaries of conservation initiatives.
With its improved facilities and growing appeal, Katavi National Park is poised to become a top destination for domestic and international tourists, offering an unforgettable holiday experience in Tanzania’s wild heartland.
