The Government has called on procurement and supply management professionals across Tanzania to embrace innovation, effective leadership, and modern technology to improve efficiency, transparency, and value for money in public spending.
The call was made by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Eng. Mshamu Ali Munde (MP), representing the Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), during the official opening of the 16th Annual Conference for Procurement and Supply Professionals.
The event took place at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) in Arusha and was organized by the Procurement and Supply Professionals and Technicians Board (PSPTB) under the theme: “Developing Supply Chain Management Professionals with Strong Leadership and Innovation Skills.”
Eng. Munde highlighted the Government’s commitment to strengthening procurement management through the Public Procurement Digital System, widely known as NeST.
The platform is designed to reduce procurement costs, enhance transparency, speed up implementation, align procurement with market prices, and improve national productivity.
“The Government has directed that all procurement activities be conducted through the NeST System to ensure transparency, cost reduction, and value for money in development projects,” Eng. Munde emphasized.
He noted that the success of Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050 largely depends on the professionalism and integrity of procurement and supply management experts.
To this end, the Government will enforce full compliance with Public Procurement Laws and Regulations across all government levels and in the private sector.
Eng. Munde also instructed PSPTB to collaborate closely with the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) to ensure that all procurement and supply activities are managed by registered professionals.
“All employers must engage professionals registered by PSPTB, as required under Act No. 23 of 2007, which established the Board. This will strengthen professionalism, accountability, and prevent the mismanagement of public funds,” he added.
The conference brought together experts, trainers, and stakeholders from within and outside Tanzania to discuss ways to enhance efficiency in procurement and supply management.
Eng. Munde encouraged participants to leverage the forum to gain new knowledge and propose strategies to advance the sector, which is vital for national development.
Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of PSPTB, CSP Jacob Kibona, stated that the Board continues to regulate and promote the procurement profession by reviewing and updating professional training curricula based on competency standards.
These initiatives aim to produce skilled professionals in supply chain management and provide professional qualifications, including the Certified Procurement and Supply Professional (CPSP), at diploma, degree, and advanced certification levels.
CSP Kibona added that PSPTB’s ongoing registration of procurement and supply professionals ensures a robust and updated national database, reinforcing the standards of the profession across public and private institutions.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of PSPTB, CPSP Godfred Mbanyi, praised participants for their commitment to the growth of the profession.
He reiterated that the Board will continue executing its statutory mandate to ensure procurement and supply management contributes effectively to national development and the proper use of public resources.
