Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr. Ngwaru Maghembe, joined celebrations commemorating the 61st Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Zambia, held in Dar es Salaam.

At the ceremony, Dr. Maghembe conveyed warm congratulations from President Samia Suluhu Hassan, wishing the Zambian nation continued growth, peace, and prosperity.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Minister noted that Zambia’s independence celebrations, themed “Building a Strong and Prosperous Zambia”, reflect the determination and sacrifices made by the nation to achieve freedom and foster national development.

He highlighted the legacy of Africa’s independence pioneers, including Zambia’s first President, the late Kenneth Kaunda, and Tanzania’s founding father, the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, whose vision and leadership strengthened bilateral ties and laid the foundation for peace, unity, and mutual benefit between the two nations.

Dr. Maghembe also praised Zambia’s ongoing collaboration with Tanzania through initiatives such as the TAZARA Railway, trade, and investment, describing them as tangible results of economic diplomacy that continue to benefit both countries.

Earlier, Zambia’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Matthews Jere, reiterated his country’s commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic cooperation with Tanzania, particularly in education, transport, agriculture, mining, and energy.
