By The Respondents Reporter

The High Court of Zanzibar, Pemba Bench, is set to hear today for the first time the cases filed by 14 ACT-Wazalendo parliamentary candidates in the 2025 General Election.

The candidates have taken legal action against the Returning Officers of the National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney General, accusing them of violating electoral laws and procedures, including the alleged use of state power during the election process.

Speaking at different times, the petitioners said going to court is part of their fight to protect their democratic rights.

“We are determined to defend our rights, and we trust the courts will deliver justice,” said one of the candidates.

The cases are being closely monitored by political and legal observers, particularly in Pemba, and are expected to influence ongoing discussions about the fairness and legality of the 2025 elections.
